Alcohol Abuse: A Disease or an Excuse?

I was recently reading an article on a Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment website called:
Alcohol Abuse: Disease or Choice?

Just the title alone really struck me.... A disease or a choice? Then I realized how many people must believe that it really could be a CHOICE! Well, coming from a family of alcoholics, I`m here to tell you that it is anything but a choice or an excuse. Alcoholism is a disease. A very real disease. Millions of Americans deal with this disease every single day. you yourself may be battling with the disease or concerned about a loved one who deals with alcohol abuse. Don`t pretend that it`s a choice that you or that loved one is making and that the abuse can simply stop at any time. In fact, many people die from the disease because they believe they do not need to seek out help.

My advice: If you are dealing with someone who is abusing alcohol or if you yourself feel like you are in need of help controlling your disease, seek out the advise of a trained counselor. When my loved one was struggling with a sever alcohol problem we called the people at Cliffside Malibu at 800-501-1988 and a trained and very professional counselor gave us solid advice on how to proceed. If you have any questions, I suggest starting your quest for help by calling first. It`s free to call and they can help you make the tough choice cause they`ve clearly been there before.
